Low-Sloped Rooftop Storm-Water Detention Assembly to Mitigate Urban Flooding

نویسندگان

چکیده

Low-sloped roofs such as commercial and high-rise buildings in a dense urban area provide vast “unused” surfaces that can be used to manage storm-water mitigate flooding. Storm-water Detention Assembly (SDA) known “blue roof” exerts advanced drainage technologies operational strategies store-and-release during after heavy rainfall events. SDA reduce peak flow decrease run-off volume. However, the application is limited due lack of science-based regulatory requirements. This paper introduces SDA, summarizes benefits challenges this system, reviews existing code specifications on roofing drain systems, documents criteria design construct SDA. With systematic approach, missing links are identified shall form change request for possible inclusion National Building Code Canada (NBCC) Plumping (NPC). In addition, road map stated calculate benchmark requirements low-sloped given climatic load.

Storm Drain Effects on Urban Flooding

Urban flooding is a primary concern in all developed areas. Understanding what factors contribute to the magnitude and frequency of flooding is of primary importance when designing an engineering system to mitigate flooding. To understand the effect of impervious area versus the role of the storm drainage system in urban flooding, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Gridded Surface Subsurface Hydr...

Can “Sponge Cities” Mitigate China’s Increased Occurrences of Urban Flooding?

China is a country with severe water problems. In recent years, urban flooding has become even more frequent, pervasive and severe, threatening China's development. To tackle the issue, China launched a national initiative termed sponge cities with enormous investment commitment. Marking a fundamental shift in water management, this initiative can be an effective approach if China commits to ap...

Off-stream Detention Design for Storm Water Management

A detention basin is designed for storm water quantity and quality controls. An in-stream basin is often located on a widened floodplain, while an off-stream basin can be part of open space in a parking lot, park, or sport field. The inflow channel associated with an off-stream basin is allowed to carry its base flow not to exceed the downstream capacity. When the inflow channel is full, the ex...

Design of Integrated Bioinfiltration-Detention Urban Retrofits with Design Storm and Continuous Simulation Methods

This article presents the elements involved in the design of a bioretention planter/trench infiltration-detention system as part of a very large-scale urban retrofit project. The prototype system was designed to intercept all of the runoff from a synthetic 5.08-mm 24-h rainfall event. Diverted flows were conveyed into bioretention planter for treatment. The bioretention systems were fingerprint...
